I don't see how the button works as a suitable distraction (or other means of foiling the villain) so I'm going to assume the crab shares the lesser-known vampire weakness that he cannot enter one's home unless invited. Vinny missed his chance; Sponge knows Vinny's out there and ain't gonna open the door again for a while.
